In 1983, Ty was founded by and named after H. Ty Warner, a toy business veteran who wanted to make a stuffed toys in a better way. He designed his first piece — a cat named Angel — that he under-filled intentionally so it would be easy to play with and could take on different poses. This was the birth of Ty's hit Beanie Babies: small, stuffed animals sporting the brand's red heart-shaped logo tag and given unique names. By the 90s, Ty cuddly toys were a sensationally popular craze. Now they are beloved by children and collectors alike, thanks in part to Warner's decision to introduce new animals and retire old ones, which made rare and retired Beanies coveted commodities.
