ETRO

Italian craftsmanship and culture are integral to Milanese icon ETRO. The family-run house started as a fabric printing company when it was founded by Gerolamo "Gimmo" Etro in 1968. Then in 1991, it evolved into a fully fledged fashion label with its womenswear line. The lives, journeys and experiences of its creative team – currently headed by Gimmo's four children – inform the collections. Within the brand's Milan headquarters lives a textile art archive, including 300 antique shawls that Gimmo and his wife Roberta owned at ETRO's inception.

Colourful paisley patterns, first introduced to the brand in 1981, are what ETRO clothing is best known for. Now a characteristic motif, the design decorates everything from outerwear to trousers. A distinctly bohemian sensibility underpins the range thanks to the label's roots in the youth revolution. Look for neutral shades merged with psychedelic hues, abstract prints and 70s accents such as patchwork and fringing.
