Planet-friendly food starts with the right tools, so we’re hurrying over to our homeware section to pick up an elegant Goldfinger chopping board. With their sleek design, you’d never guess that the wood used to make their pieces was sourced from repurposed timber offcuts. Their monthly charitable initiative, People's Kitchen, also cooks and delivers meals to vulnerable residents in the local community, and their Goldfinger Academy trains marginalised young people in the art of woodworking.

So why not be something plant-based? On the ground floor of Selfridges’ Oxford Street flagship you’ll find Juci Jerk, the brainchild of two brothers bringing the flavours of their West Indian heritage to London’s food scene. Drenched in delicious Jerk sauce and replete with beans, slaw and fried plantain, the jackfruit bowl, bagel and tempeh wrap are a meat-free Monday hit. For a more formal occasion, make a reservation at Adesse on Level 2, a fine dining establishment founded by Matthew Kennedy specialising in artfully plated vegan meals.

For the commitment-phobic shoppers amongst us, Selfridges’ rental offering is perfectly placed to help. Test drive the trends, no long-term lease required. Perhaps that means picking up a Jacquemus two-piece for your dinner at Adesse, or for those visiting the Manchester Trafford store, try indulging in some of their vintage Chanel pieces for a weekend or two.

The dog days of summer are over, and perhaps your sneakers are feeling it too. After months of festivals, parties and outdoor adventures, it’s likely your footwear is looking a bit the worse for wear. Freshen up with a visit to our new sneakers ER, whose careful cleaning and repair techniques will breathe new life into any emergency case.

5. CELEBRATE PIONEERING WOMEN

August 26th was female equality day, so we’re calling out one of our favourite labels in the Project Earth assortment - Bethany Williams. The London-based designer is known for using deadstock fabrications and sustainable materials to create her unisex clothes, and her supply chain includes the “Making For Change” production unit in London, which employs and retrains formerly incarcerated women. The creative workshops she runs with The Magpie Project, an East London organisation caring for homeless women and children, also formed the inspiration for her SS22 collection.

6. CLEAR OUT FOR CREDIT

Whilst at home, why not have a look through your wardrobe to see if any of your bags might be Reselfridges-able? The scheme allows you to sell pre-loved bags in exchange for credit, which you can then use both in store or online. Even better, you can spend it on items from our Project Earth selection.

7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

Early September is a popular time for birthdays, which means you probably know at least one Virgo in need of a gift. As the natural yet pragmatic sign, why not give them something from our Project Earth edit? Virgos are notoriously hard-working and perfectionist, so perhaps a soothing candle and a bottle of organic wine might help them unwind. Even better, bring them to your local Selfridges store on 9 September where we’ll be throwing a party to celebrate our new Selfridges Celebrates: Birthdays offering.

8. SHOWER TIME

4. SHOWER TIME

1.     Shower time

Speaking of birthdays, your birthday suit is the most planet-friendly outfit of all, so why not give it a boost with some of the vegan, cruelty-free and organic products in our beauty and skincare selection? If you’re contemplating how to make your lifestyle more circular long-term, then it’s common knowledge that the most inspired ideas arrive in the shower. Whilst you’re in there, try a refillable shampoo from Kiehl’s or Aveda to put you in the Project Earth headspace.
