How to shop for ski jackets

Not all outerwear is made equal. When it comes to which brand makes the best ski jackets, our Women’s Body Studio Buyer, Grace Neal, is armed with plenty of recommendations. “It’s so hard to choose; all our brands offer something different – Goldbergh’s fashion focus, Perfect Moment’s fit-and-flare silhouettes, Fusalp flashes of colour and – for something a bit different – My Sunday SKI’s snowsuits.” As for picking a jacket that will stand out on the slopes? “We’re seeing bold colours and colourful prints still a huge trend for us in outerwear and all-in-ones,” says Grace.

How to rent ski clothes

“There are so many benefits to renting your ski clothing. It’s cost-effective, means occasional skiers can still be stylish, and it reduces your impact on fashion waste so you can further commit to being more sustainable,” says Adam Biton, our Assistant Buyer for Selfridges Rental. “Renting also allows you to experiment with new prints, silhouettes and brands you may not have tried before.”

Adam has a few tips for finding the right rental piece for the piste. “Sizing is important as skiwear is supposed to be fitted. I’d also advise renting something that stands out and, most importantly, something comfortable – after all, comfort is paramount on the slopes!” And his golden rule? “Above all, get your rentals booked in early before someone else snaps up your look!”

For the après

It’s not all about the salopettes – base layers for keeping warm and comfy clothes for après are just as important. “Goldbergh and Perfect Moment have the most fun and colourful base-layer tops, which are perfect for standing out from everyone else,” says Grace. “My personal favourite is the Schild jumper from Perfect Moment.” And for post-ski style? “I love an all-in-one, it’s easy and super comfortable for après-ski as well. I can’t wait to try one from our new brand My Sunday SKI this season.”

Alpine accessories

Not to be overlooked, helmets, goggles and socks are the cheese to your skiwear fondue. Think form as much as function when it comes to these more practical pieces. “I love to make a statement and stand out, so I’ll be going for something bright and full of patterns,” says Adam. “I’m very keen on the idea of being completely contrasted to the snow.” Apply this to your accessories – Off-White’s fluoro ski goggles and Falke ESS’s multicoloured ski socks will do the trick.

Kids skiwear

To avoid the mountainous expense and environmental impact of continually updating your kid’s clothes, rent the kit instead. We’ve just launched kidswear on Selfridges Rental, including mini-me Moncler Grenoble jackets and all-in-ones. “It makes perfect sense to rent your kids’ skiing suits, especially when they are likely to grow out of them by the time your next ski trip rolls around,” says Adam. “It’s also your chance to do your bit for the planet, commit to a sustainable future and show the future generation how it’s done.”
