As soon as we hear a Bollinger cork pop, we know the party is sure to follow. You probably know that all champagne is named after the region of France in which it's produced, but did you know that Bollinger takes its brand name from a German man? The young Joseph Bollinger travelled from his home country to learn about the trade when he had a fortuitous meeting with an aristocrat, Athanase de Villermont. Thanks to his status as a nobleman, de Villermont was forbidden to take part in producing champagne; so he put Joseph in charge of sales and teamed up with a third – Paul Renaudin – to run the cellar. 

All of the Bollinger champagne you'll find in our Selfridges cellar come from the same 179 hectares of land just south of Paris. Pinot Noir grapes are the predominant variety, taking up 60% of the vines – the same proportion that you'll find in the popular Special Cuvée blend. The powerful grape offers a heady, fruity experience on the palate, with notes of peonies, violets and cherry fruit to tease your tastebuds.
