THE BEAUTY INSIDER:
FASHION WEEK'S BEST EVER BEAUTY LOOKS

With fashion month in full swing, our resident beauty expert and Selfridges personal shopper Rose Gallagher consults the world's finest make-up artists to bring us the top catwalk beauty looks of all time.

We consult the world's finest make-up artists on the top 10 catwalk beauty looks of all time

Erdem SS15 - Make-up by: Val Garland

Meryl Streep in Out of Africa was the inspiration behind Val Garland's gorgeous NARS make-up looks for the Erdem SS15 show. With their rosebud lips, dewy natural base, sheeny iridescent eyelids and erratically pinned hair, the models had an enviable ethereal glow. Val's top tip for creating the look? "If you don't have a clean blending brush to soften the edges [of your lids], use your fingers."

Dior SS13 - Make-up by: Pat McGrath

Bejewelled beauty looks will always get our vote, but it’s a real talent to make crystals and bold colours look quite so – how can we put it – expensive. We love how Pat teamed tropical brights with a dazzling array of Swarovski gems to add a multi-dimensional finish to the elaborate runway beauty look at Dior.

Tom Ford AW15 - Make-up by: Mary Greenwell

From the glowing limbs to the plump lips of his campaign models, everything Tom Ford creates is a celebration of female sexuality in all its glory. He entrusted Mary Greenwell to capture a "shaggable, lived-in, imperfect" make-up look for his AW15 runway. The result? Hazy smokey eyes and carefree bed-head hairstyles – what's not to love?

Roland Mouret SS06 - Make-up by: Bobbi Brown

Who knew Bobbi was pioneering the strobing look more than 10 years ago? If you ask us, the picture of health and beauty is Gemma Ward (pictured) walking in Roland Mouret's SS06 ready-to-wear show, with her glowing skin and soft, ethereal rosy cheeks. What a goddess!

DSquared2 SS17 - Make-up by: Charlotte Tilbury

In contrast to her signature bold and sultry make-up, Charlotte's look for DSquared2's SS17 show was elegant and ethereal. "It was all about rosebud lips, windswept cheeks and a neutral bronze eye," Charlotte tells us. "I call it hippie mountain chic." Enough said.

Marques' Almeida SS17 - Make-up by: Terry Barber

One of the best beauty launches of last season was MAC's Extra Dimension Skinfinish powders that create an iridescent, featherlight finish. Terry Barber used these highlighters on the models' cheekbones and eyes at Marques' Almeida to create an otherworldly look, which, he says, "was inspired by the thought of the Eurythmics doing strobing". Basically, an 80s-esque shine fest.

Charlotte Olympia AW16 - Make-up by: Val Garland

Hollywood heroines with fresh matte skin and punchy pops of colour on the eyes and lips were the order of the day at Charlotte Olympia's AW16 show – and who wouldn't want to look like a modern-day screen siren? The secret to creating that luminous finish? "Always start your make-up routine with good skincare products so the skin glows from within, rather than looking like there are layers of products sitting on top," Val Garland, the show's make-up artist, reveals.

Osman AW12 - Make-up by: Lisa Eldridge

Skin was healthy and radiant at Osman AW12, under the supervision of Lisa Eldridge. "Everyone liked the idea of weathered-looking skin; the sort of skin you get if you live in the mountains or get a tan while skiing," Lisa explains. Using creamy textures from MAC cosmetics, she teamed Pro Sculpting Cream and Paint Sticks to create a radiant flush that skimmed hairlines, cheekbones and the centre of the face.

Victoria Beckham - Make-up by: Pat McGrath

For all three of the make-up looks at the Victoria Beckham SS17 show – a super-simple and clean eye; an emerald eyeliner flick, and a cobalt-blue eyeshadow smudge – Pat ditched the usual brushes in favour of a 'freeform technique' using just her fingers. Ultra-wearable and super easy to achieve? We're sold.

Barbie meets the Upper East Side in this beauty look created by Charlotte Tilbury for MAC. "It's a DSquared2 prom! 60s prom queens with a modern twist, inspired by Lana Del Rey with a gorgeous feline pout!" Charlotte explains.
