In Fine Feather Exhibition at Selfridges London

As part of Selfridges’ Material World campaign we have teamed up with our neighbours at The Photographers’ Gallery, the UK’s first public gallery dedicated to showing modern and contemporary photographic work, to put on an exhibition that celebrates the fragile beauty of the natural world.

Opening on 17 January, In Fine Feather will feature 12 large-scale images from British artist Luke Stephenson’s series ‘An Incomplete Dictionary of Show Birds’. The series portrays exotic birds and through Stephenson’s gaze we consider how the natural and human worlds come together in these magnificent animals, capturing their unique appearance and character.

“In a world where species of animals are becoming extinct and there is declining engagement with the natural world, Luke’s work allows us to reflect on the cultural, artistic and environmental significance of these exotic birds,” explains Brett Rogers OBE, Director of The Photographers’ Gallery.

Selfridges’ Material World campaign aims to highlight how we, as consumers of fashion, design and culture, can choose to live a more sustainable life that ensures our local and global communities continue to flourish.

“The Photographers’ Gallery and Selfridges partnership is important because we are both committed to highlighting the artistic skills and creativity of outstanding individuals”, says Rogers. “In this instance we have identified a gifted British artist whose art celebrates the strengths of the photographic medium and explores the rich and diverse world of exotic birds.”

Stephenson’s ‘An Incomplete Dictionary of Show Birds’, featuring twenty-eight limited edition photographic prints, will also be on display and for sale at in the Print Sales Gallery from 19 January to 19 February 2017 at The Photographers’ Gallery.
