Founded in 2012 by Margate-based coastal enthusiast Dom Bridges, Haeckels strives to create simple products using local natural ingredients and spread a philosophy of planet-friendly seaside living. In the brand's early days, Bridges collected seaweed and other plants along the coast. He experimented with them in his home kitchen (and later at a lab on Margate's Cliff Terrace), creating products such as the Haeckels seaweed bath. Now, you'll find the brand's Bladderwrack hand cleanser, containing soothing fennel oil, in some of the country's coolest hotels and restaurants. The company's ethos and ecological focus remains: it still organises beach clean-ups and participates in conservation efforts to support its local community – hence the Project Earth banner you'll spot labelling its products on our site.
