Chile

What gives Chilean wine its distinct character? Two words: the Humboldt Current, or Peru Current. This churning ocean flow brings in cool air from the west, helping to create a superb climate for winemaking. It's fair to say that Chile, with its 4,000 miles of coastline, has taken full advantage.

Chilean red wines are known for their full, rounded flavour. As a rule, they pair beautifully with creamy cheeses, acidic sauces and meat dishes. Our sommeliers have chosen several for you to sample – expect to find plummy Carménère, velvety Merlot and fruity Cabernet Sauvignon. We also have aged varieties on offer for discerning tongues and special occasions.

And while reds are the country's stock and trade, Chilean white wines are fast becoming renowned for their quality too. These offerings tend to be zesty and easy to drink and they make for a fine culinary coupling with grilled vegetables. You'll spot a few of our favourites here. How about an organic Chardonnay, sourced from the verdant vineyards of the Casablanca Valley? Complex on the palate and pleasing to the eye, it's a shoo-in for those relaxed evenings when you just want to put your feet up and share a bottle.
