The label's story started in 1952 when Nathan Swartz began an apprenticeship at the Abington Shoe Company. In the years that followed, he worked his way up, bought the business and welcomed his sons aboard. By 1973, the family was settled in America's New Hampshire, and they were no strangers to extreme weather. To combat the blizzards and thunderstorms, the brand designed a set of rugged yellow high-tops: the first pair of signature Timberland boots. These became so sought-after that the house changed its name to match.
