You'll spot hoodies, for example, whipped up from organic fabric and cut to a relaxed, layer-able fit. There are jackets, too, made of recycled nylon that incorporates the brand's unique waterproofing technology. And bags – 100% recycled, naturally – that are specially designed to be durable and lightweight, so they're easy to carry on commutes as well as hikes. Even the smallest accessories, such as cotton caps and wool socks, are built to provide years of comfort and enjoyment. Clearly, Patagonia's outdoor clothing is as far from fast fashion as it gets.

Founded in 1973 by avid climber Yvon Chouinard, Patagonia has long championed planet-conscious causes. Since 1985, the label has donated one per cent of its sales to help fund environmental activism, and it was the first Californian company to become a Certified B Corporation – an initiative that recognises social and environmental progress.
