Mezcal is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from the maguey plant (a form of agave) native to Mexico. It is similar to Tequila in flavour but can come from anywhere in Mexico. In the past it has been seen as inferior to Tequila but in the last few years small artisan producers have been making really elegant, complex products that are rapidly growing in popularity. Los Siete Misterios is run by two brothers who have only just come into mezcal but are striving to be the best. On the nose there is a smoky savoury olive note. The palate has a sweet tobacco flavour with a hint of spice and a very long finish.
