In 1824 Alexander Reid, a Scottish farmer, obtained one of the earliest licences to distil whisky and leased 8 acres of land to establish the
Macallan distillery. The 1824 series are the latest releases from Macallan
and have a gentle sherry oak influence. The Sienna
single malt scotch whisky opens with a subtle vanilla nose, persistent yet not overpowering. Orange elbows its way in, turning zesty and sharp, though tempering green apples add freshness and balance. Next come white chocolate truffels, chewy, sumptuous, with elegant oak notes for a digestif. Dates, figs and raisins lead, then defer to nutmeg and ginger with a hint of oranges and apples, before vanilla returns in majesty. The final fanfare is gentle, smooth and warming.
