Samaroli is a curious name for an Islay whisky. But then, Silvano S Samaroli was a curious figure in whisky-making – in 1968 the Italian founded his spirits merchant in Rome and shortly became the first non-British independent Scotch whisky bottler. He was a pioneer of no-age-statement whiskies like this 2008 Caol Ila single malt Scotch with lavish that reminds us of an Islay past with its peaty aromas of medicine and iodine, and a palate of herbs, vanilla and leather.
