“The Beast of Dufftown” is a pretty apt name for Mortlach; especially when you sample this 16-year-old bottle. One of three expressions released in 2018, this dram is drawn from sherry casks that give it a sweetness enriched with fruity and fragrant notes of orange peel, apple and blackcurrant on the nose. The palate is more of a spiced story, with clove and Christmas spice building to an almost chewy raisin and ginger at the finish. Now that’s a beast.
