Stollen Bites 250g

Stollen first made its appearance as a Christmas bread in the 15th century, but it was a pretty bland affair back then, since Advent was a time of fasting and the church forbade the use of butter. Fortunately, one crusading Prince Elector of Saxony pestered five (five!) successive popes for butter permissions, until, eventually, they conceded and stollen blossomed over the centuries into the wonderful cake we know today, and this box of our Selfridges Selection bites.
