Daniel Pollitt has always been inspired by Japanese clothing, and he dubbed this wool skirt “hakama”. They were a type of trouser used by the Chinese imperial court in the Sui and Tang dynasties, then adopted by the Japanese in the beginning of the sixth century. Traditionally, they tie at the waist and fall to the ankles – just like this skirt. The extra high waist and A-line silhouette lend themselves to creative styling.
