5 easy make-up looks to try this summer

It’s summer: days get longer, skin gets frecklier, make-up gets glowy-er, and holidays are (finally) here. So what better time to mix things up in the make-up department? These five beauty looks – featuring the latest exclusive-to-Selfridges launches – will give you guaranteed summer vibes, whether you’re home or away (and don’t require an MA in Fine Art to achieve).

The most personalised foundation, ever

It’s a big claim but well deserved by UOMA for its revolutionary Say What?! Foundation, which recognises that diversity goes beyond shade availability. In fact, different skin tones have unique skin concerns, which is why the new brand has identified six skin colour groups that share similar characteristics and needs. For example, the Brown Sugar range has been specifically formulated to reduce inflammation and minimise pores – both are common concerns for melanin-rich darker skin tones. You know that ride-or-die friend who knows you inside out and always has your back? This genius foundation is the make-up equivalent of her. Plus, the weightless formula makes it perfect for balmy summer nights. UOMA, we salute you.

Sunset shades

Have you even been on holiday if you didn’t Instagram a sunset? We think not. Inspired by the colours of a picture-perfect sunset, NARS’ latest Orgasm range pre-launched exclusively at Selfridges. Recreate this golden-hour look using the new oversized version of its iconic Orgasm Blush, layered over the new Liquid Highlight in the same cult colour. The real showstopper is the Endless Orgasm Palette, featuring six cream pigments – think iridescent pink, nude golden shimmers and metallic mauve – that look just as gorgeous when blended onto eyes, cheeks and lips. Finish with the new Oil-Infused Lip Tint in the shade (you guessed it) Orgasm, which imparts a luminous wet-look that’s perfect for day or night.

The glow-getter

If your beauty alter-ego can be summed up as throwback 90s J-Lo, writhing around in the sand and living her best golden goddess life, then this new Glow Face Palette is your jam. All four silky textures are packed with metallic pigments so you can go from a healthy-looking sheen to intense luminosity with ease. Simply blend your desired shade(s) in a c-motion from the cheekbones up to the temple. The best part? The shades – from pure gold and luminous pink to warm peach and bronze – cater to all skin tones. And if you struggle with migrating make-up over the warmer months, try the new Face & Body Primer. The light formula boosts radiance and provides a smooth surface for foundation to cling to.

A modern matte

There is something incredibly chic about a bold matte lip; a certain je ne sais quoi that’s so synonymous with the effortless French Girl aesthetic. When picking a shade, there aren’t any strict rules; simply choose colours that make you smile. Red is a sure-fire winner, but we’re leaning towards coral this season for a fresh take on a classic. This Rouge G Matte Guerlain Lipstick marries intense colour with hydrating ingredients so your lips won’t feel tight and the colour won’t disappear after a couple cocktails. To complete the look, dust the brand’s iconic Terraotta bronzer across the cheeks for a light contour and, if you fancy, a few swipes of mascara to keep things modern and not too try-hard.

Matchy matchy

Ditch the fussy and stick to classic pairings with this tried-and-tested method of simply colour-matching your products. Not only does this make you look instantly put together, it requires very little effort or skill. Win-win. The key to picking products in the same colour family is to add contrast through texture. Case in point: Hourglass’ new Unreal High Shine Volumizing Lip Gloss, which does exactly what it says on the tin: the hydrating formula gives a glossy 3D effect to the lips. This hot pink shade, Fever, sits beautifully next to the brand’s beloved Ambient Lighting Blush powder in Radiant Magenta
