MaxMara is usually the label to turn to when in need of something classic and understated, but this season’s designs are unmistakably bold – attributed to Ian Griffith’s study of commedia del arte costumes and the Renaissance masters. There’s certainly something of the theatrical in the Conero top: thoroughly striped and shaped with puffed sleeves, it’s cut to maximise shoulder-flashing thanks to the smocked neckline.
