Welcome to A Dream Getaway at The Selfridges Corner Shop – a place where palm trees and mountain peaks, swimwear and salopettes, and mulled wine and matcha lattes all go hand in hand in this fantastical dreamscape destination, both in store at Selfridges London and here online.

In the space, where both palm trees and fir trees sit across the way from each other, you’ll also find a glitteringly festive bar, waiting to serve glasses of champagne – a must before any luxurious trip away. “We developed the concept for A Dream Getaway at The Corner Shop when travel still felt like a faraway dream,” says Sebastian Manes, Selfridges Executive Buying Director.  “We wanted to bring the unique and distinct magic and culture of two of our favourite international destinations to Selfridges.”

Be it blue-skied Venice Beach or a freshly powdered St. Moritz ski run, an array of ready-to-wear, accessories and gifts have arrived to assist your winter escape. Think pre-loved skiwear to cosy knits and ski lodge essentials for mountain-goers, and exclusive LA-ready loungewear, chic swimwear and Slim Aarons prints for those West Coast-bound. So, read on to take a fantasy tour of these dreamy destinations, complete with all the kit you’ll need – whether you’re heading away or metaphorically transporting yourself to faraway climes. Don’t forget to send a postcard…

First stop on our dream getaway, St. Moritz is nestled in the Engadin valley, Switzerland, where winter sports, incredible mountain views and luxurious shopping and dining all coincide. “Typically, with other mountain areas, you just have the one resort on the side of one mountain,” says Francesca Ariani from the St. Moritz Tourism Board. “With St. Moritz, we’re in a valley between two. There’s a microclimate, two mountains to ski on, and the lakes as well. It’s so unique.” Corviglia – a snow-clad summit overlooking St. Moritz – is the prime spot for a crisp morning spent skiing, especially when you’re kitted out in high-performance skiwear and accessories courtesy of our A Dream Getaway edit in our snowy Corner Shop takeover. Sports label Fusalp, founded in 1952 in the French Alps, blends traditional thermal skiwear with modern materials and silhouettes, while our RESELFRIDGES friends at We Are Cow have curated a collection of pre-loved ski jackets and trousers perfect for the pistes. “Our featured vintage skiwear is unbelievably unique and full of personality,” says We Are Cow director Steve Adamson. “Each garment ensures the clothing cycle continues until it’s time to share with someone new.”

After a hard day on the slopes, it’s time to unwind by the fire in the chalet. And what better than cosying up in cashmere après-ski knits with a warming drink and the cheese fondue bubbling away? For silky-soft, chill-bracing cashmere, Eleventy, Perfect Moment and Chinti & Parker have an array of luxurious jumpers to wrap up in, while Artesà’s hammered copper fondue set (complete with six forks ready for dipping) will be a surefire dinner party hit. While the snow falls outside, a warming mug of Selfridges Selection Orange & Cinnamon hot chocolate (or spiced mulled wine, if you’re after something with more of a festive kick), layers of blankets and logs on the fire all add up to an unbeatable, postcard-perfect winter escape.

Lit up at night against its stunning mountain backdrop, the historic Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, built in 1896, is the go-to destination for a truly elegant evening. Whether it’s dinner in Le Grand Hall or champagne in the Renaissance bar, dressing up is definitely on the cards. And we’ve got that in spades, with chic vintage dresses and tailored suit jackets from Vout Vintage, pre-loved, classic bags from our RESELFRIDGES collection, and statement archive jewellery pieces from Jennifer Gibson for the cherry on top. Can’t get a reservation? We’re recreating the magic of the hotel’s Renaissance bar with our own champagne bar in the Corner Shop, opening very soon.

Does your idea of a dream festive break involve a little less snow and a lot more sunshine? If so, Los Angeles, California, is the just-as-brilliant flip side of our Dream Getaway coin. In Hollywood, we’ll be checking into the instantly recognisable landmark Sunset Tower Hotel (its residents at one time included Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Frank Sinatra), who have collaborated with LA label Sporty & Rich for the quintessential California-athleisure collection (coming very soon to selfridges.com). “When I first moved to LA, Sunset Tower quickly became one of my regular hangouts,” says Sporty & Rich creative director Emily Oberg, on why the collaboration felt like a natural fit. “It was down the street from where I lived and I immediately fell in love with the old Hollywood feeling it gives as soon as you drive up to the valet.” Keepsake gift shop collectibles you’d usually only ever find in the hotel itself, from monogrammed mugs to fluffy bathrobes, are ready for throwing into a suitcase, too (or gift wrapped-up for someone special – your choice).

With its abundance of diverse restaurants, art museums, thrift stores and ‘I heart LA’ souvenir shops, Downtown LA is the ideal place to while away a sunny afternoon. Our collection of Los Angeles keepsakes – from logoed hats to souvenir keychains – will make you feel like you’ve just dropped by the West Coast, while our line-up of vintage streetwear from Not/Applicable sourced by founder Natasha Advani will have you dressing like a local. “I found a love of vintage when I moved to LA,” says Natasha. “There’s a huge pool of [it] out here, and everyone is looking for something different.” One-off merchandise from Downtown residents Cha Cha Matcha and Jon & Vinny’s, CBD brownies courtesy of Modern Baker and embellished necklaces from The Dan Life all help to bring a little bit of Downtown Los Angeles to Selfridges London (or wherever you are in the world).

Playground-by-the-sea Venice Beach is our final stop in our Los Angeles getaway, with its buzzing boardwalk, sandy beach and long stretch of palm trees, bristling in the breeze. To match the neighbourhood’s cool, anything-goes mood, we’ll be slipping on a pair of pre-loved The Vintage Trap sunglasses (these blue-lensed vintage Gucci shades from the 1970s will do the trick) and opting for some eye-catchingly cool and glamorous swimwear from Léa The Label, Hunza G and new-to-Selfridges label Isa Boulder. “[A good bikini] makes you forget that you haven’t been exercising for years and feel like you’re the sexiest creature that ever walked the Earth,” founders Cecilia Basari and Yuli Suri told British Vogue, when describing their collection of draped swimwear. Then, as the tide starts to draw in, we’ll be reaching for a knitted blanket from LA-based luxury label The Elder Statesman to throw on as we watch the sun set over the water – the dreamiest end to our Dream Getaway this December.
