The shoes made for summer

The shoes made for summer

 Words: Anish Patel

Shoes for men are as varied as our plans for the warmer months. There are loafers for destination weddings, sandals and espadrilles for big, sunny holidays, sliders for ambling around the pool (or for a weekend pint) and trainers for everything in between. Here’s our fashion editor’s guide to finding the perfect pairs for this summer and beyond.

1. Wear-everywhere trainers

Axel Arigato Dice leather and suede low-top trainers, £215

On the lookout for trainers you can wear with absolutely everything? Axel Arigato’s low-top Dice Lo pair are your answer. The classic, minimalist design looks a little bit vintage thanks to emerald-green panels and a 60s-inspired silhouette.

2. Clog show

Birkenstock Boston clog buckled suede mules, £115

Clogs aren’t going anywhere this season. The new, suede styles, have clattered onto the scene just in time for the rise of quiet luxury. Birkenstock’s off-white pair go just as well with shorts and a T-shirt as they do with selvedge denim and a linen shirt.

3. Sliders that can do both

Bottega Veneta woven rubber slides, £360

Finding a pair of sliders that you can wear at any point in the day will save you suitcase space this summer. Bottega Veneta’s woven rubber pair are made to look like Intrecciato leather, so they can deal with splashes or seawater and can also come with you to dinner.

Who doesn’t wish they were on a yacht somewhere. Deck shoes –leather ones, specifically, from luxury king Eleventy – will get you one step closer to that dream and look equally elegant on dry land.  Need a pair for that destination wedding? Here you go.

4. Luxury updates

Ermenegildo Zegna Triple Stitch suede low-top trainers, £795

Luxury lace-up trainers with all the ease of slip-ons? Sign us up. This pair, by Ermenegildo Zegna, are crafted from buttery-soft Italian leather and feature elastic that imitates the look of laces. Pair them with your suit to make smart outfits a little more comfortable this summer.

5. Easy sliders

adidas Adilette 22 brand-print woven sliders, £49.99

No, these aren’t digital shoes designed for your avatar alter-ego. They’re the real deal, and they’re adidas’ Adilette brand-print woven sliders. Those wavy lines were inspired by maps of Mars, and that greyish hue is equally utilitarian. They’ll mean you’re more than equipped for venturing to the beach bar.

6. Big deck energy

ELEVENTY Espadrille-sole suede boat shoes, £420

Who doesn’t wish they were on a yacht somewhere. Deck shoes –leather ones, specifically, from luxury king Eleventy – will get you one step closer to that dream and look equally elegant on dry land.  Need a pair for that destination wedding? Here you go.
