Any questions?

We hope you found everything you needed on our site, but just in case you have more questions about applying for a job at Selfridges, we’ve got these handy ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ (and their answers!) to help you.

  • How does the application process work?

Your application process depends on which position you have applied for.

    For Retail:

Once you have submitted your application, you will be asked to complete a Situational Judgement Test (SJT, for short), to see how you would cope with a situation you might face in your role at Selfridges.

Once you pass this stage, you will then be asked to complete a video interview. All you have to do is be yourself! We’re not looking for budding TV presenters, just the real you, and to see how you might interact with our customers.

Following a successful video interview (nice work!), a hiring event is the last stage in the retail application process. This is a 2-hour recruitment event, where you will get to take part in group activities and a one-to-one interview.

We will always be in touch throughout the process to answer any questions you might have along the way.

    For Restaurants:

Once you have submitted your application, your details will be reviewed by our recruitment team. If you are applying for a front of house role, you will be asked to complete a Situational Judgement Test (SJT) to see how you would cope with a situation you might face in your role at Selfridges. If you are applying for a back of house role, you will not complete an SJT.

Once you’ve passed the first stage, you will be invited to attend an interview followed by a final-stage skill-set assessment. This will last 3 hours for a front of house application and 4 hours if you are applying for a back of house role.

We will be in touch to provide you with all the information you might need.

    For Head Office:

Once you have submitted your application, it will go straight to our recruitment team for review. If you are shortlisted, you will have a phone interview with the recruitment partner who is hiring for the role. This will be a short call to find out more about your experience and your suitability for the role.

After a successful phone interview (wahoo!) you will be invited for a first-stage meet and greet, followed by a slightly more formal competency-based interview, which includes questions around our values.

If you pass this stage, we will invite you back for a final-stage interview. This will vary from role-to-role, but may include an assessment for more technical roles where particular skill-sets are needed. You may also have to prepare something in advance depending on the role you’re applying for, but our recruitment partners will make sure you have all the information you need beforehand.

  • Can I apply for more than one job at Selfridges?

You are very welcome to apply for more than one role at once – each of your applications will be considered separately. If you are applying for a sales associate role, apply for the position you think most suits your skills and areas of expertise. We want you to have the best chance of making your application shine, so take a look at the skills and experience detailed in the advert and tailor your CV and application form (where appropriate) to help your application stand out for that role. As a note of advice: generic applications that aren’t tailored to the specific role tend not to be picked for interview.

  • How long can I expect to wait for a response following my interview?

We know how important it is to find out how you have done and we aim to get back to you (by phone or email) as soon as possible after an assessment or interview. If our feedback is delayed for any reason we will let you know and advise when you will hear back from us. You can also check the status of your application at any time by logging into your account under the Vacancies tab on our careers website.

  • I’ve been offered a role but my start date needs to change – what do I do?

If the date you’re able to start your role has changed, please contact the Selfridges recruitment team member you have been dealing with to let them know. They will then be able to confirm your new start date and make any changes needed to your induction.

  • When will I get my paperwork for my new role?

First of all, congratulations! We’re so excited that you’re going to join team Selfridges and we look forward to getting to know you even better. After we make an offer, we aim to send out your offer pack by post within 48 hours, depending on eligibility checks. This may take a few days to reach you, especially if it was sent before a weekend or bank holiday. We will confirm your start date with you by phone. If you have any queries about your offer, the recruitment team member you have been dealing with will be able to help you.

  • What will my first few days be like?

Welcome to Selfridges! We’re delighted that you will be joining us. As a new member of team Selfridges, you will be introduced to the world of Selfridges with our Big Yellow Welcome induction, which is either one or two days' long, depending on your role. You will be joined on your induction with fellow new starters from across the business. Details of your Big Yellow Welcome induction are included in your offer pack. Your line manager and colleagues will introduce you to your role and the teams you will be working with in your first few weeks in the business, as well as providing ongoing training and support.

  • I can’t find a role on your website / advertised elsewhere…

Our careers website shows all the roles we currently have open. If you can’t find the role on our careers site, this means either the role has been filled or we have closed the advert due to the volume of applications received or because interviews are taking place. Keep checking in as new roles get advertised all the time.

  • I work for a concession within Selfridges and I have seen a role I would like to apply for – should I apply online?

Thank you for thinking of us. If you are a concession team member, please follow our standard recruitment process and apply for the role via our careers website. Good luck!

  • I handed my application in directly to a concession brand in one of your stores. When will Selfridges contact me?

A concession at Selfridges is essentially a separate shop within our store, run by one of our brand partners. Team members who work for our concession brands are not employed by Selfridges, so we do not process applications or recruit on behalf of these brands.

If you are interested in opportunities where you would be directly employed by Selfridges, please explore our latest vacancies on our careers website.

  • What is the dress code for interviews?

The dress code reflects the area of the business you are being interviewed for. Keep things smart, but don’t be afraid of showing a little personality through your style, if you wish.

For more information on the interview dress code, please ask your recruitment contact.

  • Where will I be based?

All adverts have the location of the role along with a map.

The majority of our Head Office roles are split between our Leicester and London offices and Retail roles sit within their home store.

  • I need adjustments made for my application, can you help?

That is no problem, we can make any reasonable adjustments you need so you can complete the application/interview process. Please contact our recruitment team on [email protected].

  • Does Selfridges accept speculative CVs?

No, we’re very sorry but due to data protection laws, we do not accept any CVs other than when you have registered with our Careers Hub. We view and respond to all applications we receive via the hub.

You can also register with our Careers Hub without applying for a role and receive job alerts, so you can be first in line when your dream job lands in your inbox!

  • I’ve worked for Selfridges before, how should I reapply or rejoin?

We are absolutely delighted that you are looking to return to team Selfridges! If you’ve spotted a role that you’re interested in, you can enter the process easily via our Careers Hub.

  • If I am not successful can I apply for the same vacancy again?

We’re sorry but unfortunately our system has a six-month time period in which you cannot reapply for the same role. To help with your application journey, you can turn on job alerts on our hub where you’ll be notified of any roles you’re interested in once they become available.

  • How can I delete my application?

We all change our mind from time to time. If you change your mind and want to delete your application, you can do so within your profile once you’ve logged into the Careers hub.

  • Oops! I have made a mistake and have applied for the wrong vacancy – can I change this?

No problem! Yes, you can withdraw from that application and reapply.

  • Do you offer work experience?

We offer work experience throughout Retail and Head Office for internal team members only. As a business we strongly believe in internal progression and work experience gives our team members an opportunity to experience a different team and role.

  • I have been invited to book an interview online but there are no available slots showing, what should I do?

Great news, you’ve successfully progressed to the next stage of your application! We encourage you to book in your own interview to be sure it is at a time and date that suits you. If for some reason you cannot book in your own interview, this most likely means that we have run out of slots. Feel free to contact our recruitment team on [email protected] who will be able to advise you.

  • I’m having difficulties completing my video interview – what do I do?

We’re very sorry to hear you are having trouble completing your video interview. There could be a few reasons why it isn’t working, please try the tips below:

    ·      All video interviewing will be easier to complete on the latest version of Google Chrome.

    ·      If it’s a mobile phone, check that your software is fully up to date.

  • I have to cancel my interview – what should I do?

We understand everyone needs to change arrangements from time to time, so if you need to cancel or reschedule your interview, please get in touch directly with your recruitment contact as soon as you can so we can let the hiring manager know.
