Your guide to the party shoes of 2019

It’s  party season and nothing says “I’m ready to paaaarttyyyy” quite like your choice of dancing shoes. But forget blister-inducing stilettos and toe-crushing Oxfords; this Christmas, change is afoot – pun intended. As part of Future Fantasy – our festive campaign in which we celebrate a Christmas for modern times – we’re thinking outside the (shoe) box to bring you the freshest takes on party footwear, from hype-worthy trainers to statement-making boots.

Midnight 00 Shell tulle
and PVC pumps

Midnight 00 Shell tulle and PVC pumps

If the dress code is pure fashion fairy tale, then look no further than Midnight 00’s Shell pumps. Inspired by the most famous of fictional shoes – Cinderella’s glass slippers – they’re made from ruffles of polka-dot tulle and PVC (talk about a dreamy combo). Show them off best with cropped tailoring – they’ll protect your ankles from the cold so you won’t feel the need to take them off, say, when the clock strikes 12.

Balmain B-Ball Hi trainers

Balmain might have been a little late to the trainer party, launching its first-ever collection exclusively with Selfridges earlier this year, but, as any seasoned partygoer knows, it’s rude to show up on time. Inspired by classic basketball silhouettes, the B-Ball trainers are a footwear all-star, especially in this suave black and white colourway. The dance floor awaits, dear gents.

Bally - boots (coming soon)

Bally Zeber leather hiking boots

Nothing looks as good as a pair of hiking boots if you’re heading to the country for the weekend – or a warehouse rave. Bally’s Zeber pair has a patented Arctic Grip Vibram sole that reacts to slick surfaces (like a beer-soaked dance floor), a padded ankle grip for added support for those intrepid dance moves and electric-blue corded laces to rival any strobe lighting. Who is the sleekest of them all? You are.

Nicholas Kirkwood - boots (coming soon)

Combat boots as partywear? Yep, we say, be the most fashion-forward at the ball with Nicholas Kirkwood’s Casati boots. Instantly recognisable by the row of lustrous faux pearls at the heel, they’re inspired by Marchesa Luisa Casati, who, legend has it, would walk her pet cheetahs through the streets of Venice on pearl-embellished leads (casual). They’ll instantly dial down the girliness of voluminous midi skirts and dresses - think ‘Killing Eve’s’ Villanelle in that pink Molly Goddard dress. So. Good.

Malone Souliers Lauren
crystal-embellished sandals

What does every great party need? A pair of seriously comfy (and disco-ready) heels, of course. Enter Malone Souliers’ crystal-embellished Lauren sandals. Sparklier than a Studio 54 glitter ball, with more height than Diana Ross’ coif and lots of support for those Grace Jones-esque dance moves, these 70s-inspired platforms tick the comfort and glamour boxes. So, when Little Simz’ ‘Boss’ comes on, you won’t have to hold anything back when the bass drops.

Veja V-10 leather trainers

Wearing trainers out-out reminds you exactly what’s so fun about going out in the first place. Not only for the practical joys – throwing some serious shapes on the dance floor, not being constantly on the lookout for a seat and sprinting to a cab at the end of the night – but for the aesthetic freedom, too. Finished off with a pair of trainers, like Veja’s pristine-white V-10 design, no outfit can be labelled ‘too much’ or ‘overdressed’. This is modern party wear at its (box) freshest.
