Welcome to our round-up of the five key pieces to shop now, chosen by those in the know. This time, as part of Selfridges Project Earth, our new initiative which explores more sustainable ways to shop, our Womenswear Stylist Grace Keogh selects five earth-conscious midi dresses.

September is traditionally the month when ‘transitional’ becomes part of our fashion vocabulary once again. This can be the perfect time for dresses – the kind you can wear bare-legged now and pair with boots come winter. But how about choosing styles made with the planet in mind? Stylist Grace says 99% of her wardrobe consists of dresses, and her role at Selfridges involves creating fully styled looks, from sportswear to eveningwear and everything in between. Asymmetric faux-leather midi dress

“This faux-leather midi dress takes the ‘LBD’ and turns it on its head. I love the details – from the solo sleeve to the necktie and the half-bustier cups. The dress really speaks for itself, so I would style it with some strappy heels and a simple bag. Georgian brand Materiel works with recycled materials (including for this dress), and it gives, in its own words, ‘young and emerging designers the chance to expand their possibilities and talents’ within the fashion industry by working with them on its collections.”

“The work of two Central Saint Martins graduates, Vesture makes its garments by hand in the UK and works with a lot of deadstock and waste materials in its collections, earning it a spot in our Reducing Waste edit. Inspired by tailoring techniques, the brand has created this simply beautiful dress especially for Selfridges, and it’s both timeless and effortless – the draped silk creates a really flattering silhouette. I would wear this midi with some simple heels, a clutch bag and some seriously big earrings.”
