A league of their own

The best sports-inspired styles of the season

As the summer gets in full swing, we’re tracking the rise of sports-influenced styles and limited edition collabs that are as suited to the sports field as fashion’s front row. On your marks, get set…

Golf Le Fleur x Lacoste - tracksuit top, tracksuit bottoms and cardigan

Golf Le Fleur x Lacoste

Not only has Tyler, The Creator provided the perfect soundtrack to our summer, he’s also serving us the ultimate pastel-hued garb with his Lacoste collaboration. Tyler teased the collection at the French Open last month as he took to the stands wearing the perfectly retro range of colourful knits and classic polos. This man’s got the summer sorted: game, set and match.

Palm Angels - jacket (coming soon)

On track with Palm Angels

Is the track jacket and trousers combo Generation Z’s answer to the two-piece suit? Quite possibly. With a slicker, smarter new edge, it’s a style that can traverse the smart vs. sporty divide. Mixing founder Francesco Ragazzi’s Italian sartorial background with influences from LA skate culture, Palm Angels’ rendition is a textbook example.

Dropping this August: Sorayama

Hajime Sorayama’s work was brought to the world stage by Kim Jones at Dior, who collaborated with the Japanese artist for his 2019 pre-fall collection (not to mention a gigantic robot for the runway show). Now the artist goes it alone with bright graphic-print tees emblazoned with the Sorayama robot. We say, pair the styles with track pants and fluro-bright trainers for a futuristic sports look. Follow @TheYellowDrop to be the first to hear about the Sorayama drop.

adidas - sweatshirt and shorts / Nike - Speed Vomero 5 trainers (available in store) /

Dressed to the Nineties

Ahh the '90s: a golden age for sport, when football stickers from the corner shop were as hyped as the latest Supreme collab, the oh-so-high-tech Football Manager video game made you into a would-be Alex Ferguson (minus the private jet) and David Beckham was…well, sarong-ing his way through the Premier League. No wonder, then, that '90s sports styles are leading the charge at Nike, Polo Sport and Adidas right now, from chunky trainer reissues to classic branded sweats. Sign. Us. Up.

Raf Simons x Adidas - Ozweego trainers / Nike Zoom Vomero 5 trainers  (both available in store)

Gym-dodging kicks

Calling all sneakerheads: forget gym-appropriate styles, we’re on the hunt for trainers that get heads turning. First up: the Zoom Vomero 5 from NIKE. We’re talking full-on ‘90s revival, with this season’s most-hyped-about colour (electric green) popping on the mesh upper and clashing with the pink reflective stripe on the tongue. Not bold enough? Then test-drive Ozweego from adidas x Raf Simons. Bright, loud and futuristic…who knew that soles that look like they’ve been dipped in liquid silver would be our vice?
