To celebrate the launch of Dior’s capsule Dioriviera collection, the fashion house has taken over our rooftop restaurant, alto at Selfridges London, offering an exclusive luxury dining and shopping experience. Many faraway trips are off the cards this year, so Dior at alto is this summer’s most sought-after spot for that holiday feel. You can shop the limited-edition Dioriviera collection and enjoy an elegant menu inspired by Monsieur Dior’s favourite dishes and cocktails – all while soaking up the sunshine.

To celebrate the launch of this hotly anticipated destination, we invite you to discover this summer’s Dioriviera collection with the fashion house’s Creative Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, and to meet Ben Montassar and Michael Stefanutti, the Head Chefs at alto, for a taste of the Riviera in the heart of central London…

STEP INTO SUMMER WITH THE DIORIVIERA CAPSULE COLLECTION

Whether you’re holidaying at home or heading further afield, the Dioriviera collection is your invitation to escape. Each year, the prestigious fashion house’s Creative Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, revisits her love of the Mediterranean with a capsule collection that pays homage to its coastline. Reinventing Christian Dior’s beloved signature Toile de Jouy, Chiuri has splashed the print across everything from 90s-inspired monogrammed handbags to knitted beachside ponchos. Celebrating the dolce-vita lifestyle, Chiuri has also partnered with iconic Italian scooter brand Vespa to create an exclusive Dior model of the Vespa 946, complete with a helmet and top case embellished with the Dior Oblique motif.

For couture-worthy coastal excursions, discover Dior’s parasols, beach games and even surfboards in rich colours adorned with the Christian Dior logo, which are all on display at alto. Not planning on hitting the beach just yet? The decorative placemats, stationery and colourful cushions bring a splash of the Riviera into your home.

Today it [the Dioriviera collection] has become a constellation of simple and exquisite pieces that can be combined in endless ways.

I have included themes in the collection that are close to my heart – it’s a summer collection, linked to several vacation spots.
The pieces feature the iconic Toile de Jouy print that is beloved by the House of Dior.

DIOR AT ALTO

Inspired by the joys of alfresco dining, Dior at alto’s décor transports you to the sights and sounds of the Riviera. Head to the marble bar for a taste of summer with the Dior signature cocktail menu – featuring the Lady Dior cocktail and the Vespa Martini. The billowing canopy, decorated in the Toile de Jouy print, bright linen tablecloths, woven straw furniture nd an oasis of greenery all help to create a seriously Instagrammable, buzzy atmosphere.

Explore the menu with the Head Chefs at alto

From sea bass carpaccio with fennel and marinated citrus fruits to delicately crafted cream-filled buns – our head chefs at alto have been busy designing exquisite dishes and inventive cocktail recipes inspired by the House of Dior. To celebrate the launch of their brand-new menu, we caught up with the head chefs at alto to discuss dining like Monsieur Dior, recreating the flavours of the Riviera and what they’ll be ordering from the menu.

Please note that a maximum of six people can dine together at Dior at Alto and that all diners are required to register their details as part of the NHS Test & Trace scheme.
Which dishes on the menu are inspired by Monsieur Dior’s favourite delicacies?

Monsieur Dior was a passionate gourmand and famously adored elegant seafood dishes such as lobster and oysters. In 1972, a collection of Dior’s favourite recipes was released in a cookbook called La Cuisine Cousu-Main (‘Tailor-made Cuisine’), which was fascinating for us to read. Our tagliolini dish topped with caviar and sea bass carpaccio, and the grand sharing shellfish plate accompanied by a selection of sauces are a celebration of refined elegance, which we think would have delighted Monsieur Dior

What else inspired you when designing the Dior at Alto menu?

We took inspiration from a quote of Monsieur Dior’s, which echoes our own food philosophy at alto: “The materials we use when cooking are just as noble as the materials used in couture”. We couldn’t agree more; we’re passionate about ingredients. We have used the best ingredients and allowed them to shine in this menu.

Which flavours do you associate most with the Riviera?

The traditional flavours of the Riviera are not haute cuisine but a unique balance of delicate and hearty flavours, thanks to the ingenuity of the people of the region and their enthusiastic love of good food. Think the freshest local fish, olives, olive oil and herbs – a salade niçoise encapsulates this kind of combination perfectly.

What will you be ordering from the menu?

I’d go for the tagliolini with Sicilian red prawn, butter and caviar. As for dessert? It would have to be Le Chapeau – a delicate white chocolate sphere filled with hazelnut ice cream and cocoa nibs with a whipped blackberry panna cotta – it’s almost too pretty to eat! I’d pair my choices with a J’adore cocktail or two: a refreshing, zesty combination of champagne, Lemon & Basil Belvedere, pressed apple juice and lemon.

THE J’ADORE COCKTAIL RECIPE

For a taste of the Riviera with a high-fashion twist

• 30ml Lemon & Basil Belvedere Vodka

• 7.5ml lemon juice

• 15ml honey water (10ml honey / 5ml water)

• 15ml pressed apple juice

• 45ml champagne

Method

• Shake all ingredients (except the champagne) over ice for 8-10 seconds

• Strain into a champagne coupette glass

• Top with champagne

• Garnish with a lemon twist and basil leaf and enjoy!
