MORE, MORE, MORE!
Valentino’s new creative director has brought his signature more-is-more exuberance to the historic Italian fashion house while paying homage to Valentino Garavani’s rich legacy.
Titled ‘Avant Les Débuts’ (French for ‘Before the Beginnings’), the collection combines Valentino’s refinement and elegance with Michele's love for eccentricity, delivered via masterful craftsmanship and references to the house’s archives. At The Corner Shop, pieces nod to silhouettes from the 60s and 70s. There’s Jackie Kennedy-style suiting, blouses, paisley-print coats, vintage-wash denim, and bohemian A-line skirts and shirts brimming with florals. Michele’s hallmarks are all there, too: polka dots, sequins, bows, tassels and ruffles – tiers of them – erupting from collars, cascading down gowns and frothing at hems.
The menswear is equally maximalist, retro and season-defying. Think corduroy tailoring, pussy-bow paisley shirts, wide-leg jeans and sharply cut tailoring.
