Helping hands

With unprecedented levels of hand washing (and alcohol-based sanitisers) now part of our daily routine, we’re all too aware of the issues that this can cause with your hands, from irritated skin to extreme dryness. So we tasked our beauty experts with selecting the products to give you a little helping hand.

DIPTYQUE – SOFTENING HAND WASH

You may find yourself craving a gentler hand wash to sit alongside the stronger antibacterial formulas in your home – simply for the times that permit a more luxurious hand-washing experience. This delicately scented soap is formulated with restorative organic lavender, rosemary and lemon, and is reminiscent of a stroll round an English garden in springtime. Aaand breathe…

SISLEY – SISLEŸA L'INTÉGRAL ANTI-ÂGE HAND CARE CONCENTRATE

This hand cream ticks a lot of boxes. The high-performance formula not only hydrates the skin, but the mix of active ingredients (think vitamin C and soy protein) exfoliates damaged skin and reduces dark spots and fine lines. Skin is left feeling plump and (over time) appears brighter.

BULY 1803 – POMMADE CONCRÈTE HAND AND FOOT CREAM

If you have ultra-sensitive skin, opt for a fragrance-free formula that won’t further irritate. This ultra-rich pomade is enriched with shea butter and sesame oil (both of which have amazing regenerative properties), plus beeswax and chamomile water to soothe and soften the skin. Warm up a pea-size amount into hands for instant relief.

Repetitive hand washing can strip away your skin’s natural oils which causes dryness and irritation. To combat this, a few of my hardcore beauty pals have started wearing cotton gloves over a very thick layer of hand cream to bed, which locks in moisture and helps repair the skin. Yes, you may look a little strange but, trust me, it works!

KARUNA – HYDRATING+ HAND MASK

Take things to the next level with a targeted treatment mask for an instant hit of hydration. These leave-on gloves from Karuna are saturated in a creamy oil-infused formula that’s packed with hyaluronic acid and aloe vera extract to restore lost moisture and relieve the driest of skin. Plus, when you take off the gloves, your nails and cuticles look refreshed, as if you’ve just had a manicure (which, let’s face it, we’re all missing right now).

LE LABO – BASIL HAND LOTION
(COMING SOON)

If you have dehydrated hands but hate the feeling of a product sitting on your skin, then pluck for a fast-absorbing lotion, like this one by our achingly cool friends at Le Labo. Their vegan and cruelty-free formulas are a Selfridges team favourite, and the refreshing Basil collection contains almond and sunflower oil to leave skin soft and hydrated, but never greasy.
