Named after the coldest side of a mountain, The North Face originated in California in 1968, by husband and wife hiking enthusiasts Douglas and Susie Tompkins. The mountaineering brand's mantra is about exploring, so the outerwear products are named after mountains. The North Face men's jackets are padded with down. It creates tiny air pockets to trap and retain heat, keeping you warm while regulating your body temperature. 

Designed in relaxed silhouettes, the breathable puffers are fitted with funnel necklines and hook-and-loop tape at the elasticated cuffs to keep the wind out, while many men's puffer jackets have protective hoods. Despite the oversized silhouettes, they're surprisingly lightweight, and some can be packed into their own pockets for travelling. Black and cream styles are understated, while blue and orange shades give an 80s feel.
