Our next Alpine break may well be on hold for now, but we’re still making a beeline for Prada’s Snow collection, featuring fresh takes on the brand’s signature technical outerwear and accessories that are as suited for inner-city pavements as they are the piste. Including exclusive-to-Selfridges jackets and trousers crafted from planet-friendly Re-Nylon (made from waste materials such as fishing nets), this is a collection made with the wonders of nature in mind.

THE EXCLUSIVE OUTERWEAR

With walks in the park replacing our catch-ups in bustling bars this year, we’re seeking out outerwear that both beats the chill and shows we’ve not lost any of our fashion nous whilst being cooped up indoors. And, of course, Prada is a master when it comes to outerwear that blends function with thoughtful design touches. Take, for example, the exclusive-to-Selfridges Prada Snow camouflage down jacket: a style that has all the pockets, details and windproof credentials you need, while offering a sleek silhouette and print that’s as fresh as newly laid snow.

FOE FOR THE ICE, FRIENDLY FOR THE PLANET

PRADA RE-NYLON

We were thrilled to learn about the sustainable steps Prada is making when we launched our Prada Re-Nylon pop-up at Selfridges London earlier in the summer (read up on that, here), and with the Prada Snow collection, those planet-friendly fabrications continue. The toasty unisex black quilted hooded gilets and jackets, bucket hats (complete with handy functional pocket attachment) and chunky-soled ankle boots (perfect for traversing both snow peaks and icy pavements) were all crafted with ECONYL®, recycled nylon generated from discarded fishing nets salvaged from our oceans, and textile waste saved from landfill. Going forward, Prada has pledged that by 2021, all virgin nylon used in its business will be converted to planet-friendly Re-Nylon.

THE WINTER ESSENTIALS

Much like its Linea Rossa collections – Prada’s sport-inspired diffusion line, featuring wind- or rain-proof fabrics, and made-for-moving trousers, hoodies and jackets – Prada Snow is all about function, but with a fashion edge (of course). Looking at what we need right now and offering it all up on a rather stylish platter is Prada’s simple but effective modus operandi, especially following its SS21 show earlier this year. From backstage, Miuccia Prada (co-creative director, alongside Raf Simons), told Vogue: “In a time of complexity: what matters? What is meaningful? We wanted to create something that makes sense to people, something that is useful.” The same sentiment applies to Prada Snow, too – especially when it comes to the cosy cashmere winter layers, heavy-tread boots and slick accessories with a utility edge.
