In 1961, when children worldwide were playing with wooden toys, Monsieur Rampeau had other ideas: he cleverly moulded rubber from the Hevea tree into a toy giraffe. The result? Sophie the Giraffe – a first-of-its-kind teether for babies. The long-legged animal quickly became a best seller and continues to be popular today. But now, the character has undergone many transformations, turning into everything from dummies and sensory balls to rattles and much more.
