The Chateau Montelena estate began in 1882 when Alfred Tubbs started planting vines in the empty plots near his locality. Within a decade, the estate became one of the biggest wineries in the Napa Valley. Originally known for its chardonnay, the company has since expanded to create bottles like the zinfandel. Part of the special varieties range, the grapes are grown in unique volcanic soil for optimal cultivation.
