The family-owned wine estate of
Kanonkop – now in its fourth generation – is named after the cannons that were found in its hills (or “kopje” in Afrikaans) in the 17th century. It’s best-known for being one of the first producers to grow and vinify pinotage: so as you’d expect, lots of work has gone into making this bottle as good as possible. Aged in French oak, it’s an opulent tipple with notes of glossy black fruit, a silky texture, and a spicy, ripe acid structure.
