From the collective insignia of pierced punks in the 1960s to a symbol of alliance with political activists today, the humble spike has had quite a radical history. The stud first appeared in the early collections for Jean Paul Gaultier, replacing traditional fastenings on jackets and waistcoats. But for this season, it’s reimagined as a subcultural ear cuff. Crafted from polished brass, this provocative piece is carved with sculptural spikes piercing through the earring like silvery fireworks.
