In 1824 Alexander Reid, a local farmer, obtained one of the earliest licences to distill whisky and leased eight acres of land to establish the Macallan distillery. Since that time Macallan has risen to one of the top distilleries in the country. The 12-year-old has been matured in oloroso sherry casks, beautifully smooth with the rich notes of oloroso sherry lifting the aromas and fruits.
