Alexander II of Russia’s sommelier first reached out to
Louis Roederer to ask the maison to create a special champagne for the Tsar—one that expressed the pinnacle of quality. With full control over its vineyards, it knew exactly which parcels to choose from, and so Cristal was born. To soothe the Tsar’s assassination paranoia, the bottle was made from clear crystal and shaped with a flat punt so bombs couldn’t be hidden inside. This 2014 vintage has been recently disgorged to preserve the wine's luminescent freshness and notes of candied fruits, light grains and almonds.
