Four easy ways to beat denim fatigue

We can’t live without denim – that’s a given. So how do we go about making it feel fresh this season, and not like we’re wearing the same jeans-and-a-nice-top outfit, day in, day out? Well, here are four easy ways to beat that between-season denim ‘blah’.

Blanche - denim jacket and jeans / Samsoe & Sansoe - T-shirt / Eytys - trainers (available in store) / Medea - pink bag and blue bag

Colour it in

The simplest (and let’s face it, most industrious) way to avoid a denim ‘Groundhog Day’ situation is to try something that isn’t blue or black once in a while. Scandi label Blanche is onto a winner with its lilac denim co-ords. Wear yours together with a bright tee underneath, or try the jacket or jeans solo with something neutral, and hey presto: you’ve just tripled your outfit options.

Get shredded

Sometimes, the best way to shake off style lethargy is to up the ante with something mega. This jacket by Levi’s diffusion label Levi’s Made & Crafted takes distressed denim to a whole new level with its ripped-up fabric, trailing sleeves and cropped shape. The main rule of thumb this season? Don’t feel boxed in to wearing just one frayed item at a time – ripped-hem jeans look great with a distressed jacket and a holey T-shirt. You rebel, you.

The brands to know

The denim brands that are selling like hot cakes

Paco Rabanne - top / Nobody Denim - jeans / Versace - chain belt (available in store) / Alighieri - crescent-shaped necklace and round necklace / Saint Laurent - boots (available in store) / Missoma - earrings (available in store)

Shape up

Did you know that this summer marks the 50th anniversary of Woodstock? We may not have been there, swaying in the mud to The Who all those years ago, but we can definitely channel those peace and love vibes by pulling on a feel-good pair of wide-leg jeans. Keep it feeling retro with a carefree top (this geometric print one from Paco Rabanne is just the ticket) and a stand-out belt, and you’re good to go.

Make it a double

Forget what you think you know about double denim: no, it’s not impossible for normal folk (ie: not influencers or models) to pull it off. And no: it won’t prompt someone to ask if you’re in ’80s fancy dress. We’re making the double-denim combo feel cool (and most importantly wearable) this spring by mixing up our washes. Take these spliced-up jeans by E.L.V (two pairs of contrasting faded jeans stitched together), which look brilliant with a jet-black denim jacket. Sold.
