Inspired by the austere yet beautiful streets of the empty capital, Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton expressed a desire for "shape, silhouette, and volume...bare bones of clothing stripped back to its essence". Embellishments were scant, but pieces like this buttery ball gown were no less spectacular for it. Crafted from lightweight cotton-poplin, its intricately pleated construction and flowing asymmetric skirt prove decoration enough.
