The late Brandon Truaxe founded the label in 2016 as an offshoot from his DECIEM group of companies. The Iranian-Canadian sought to address what he considered to be a lack of passion and transparency in the way beauty products were created. Truaxe aimed to improve the industry, giving The Ordinary the tagline clinical formulations with integrity".
