Chateau Grillet is one of the most famous
white wines in the world, deemed to be worthy of its own appelation with Condrieu. Using old vine Viognier, the estate produces wines of wonderful complexity and majesty, and are rightly revered by wine lovers throughout the world. A recent change in ownership (it is now owned by the perhaps even more famous Chateau Latour) has lead to even more rigorous selection in the vineyard, with the result that some grapes which used to go into Chateau Grillet itself are now declassified to Cotes du Rhone status, and labelled as "Pontcin", an old name found on the estate itself. The wine itself is a superb expression of Viognier, with fruit, acidity and wonderful minerality combining to create something truly extraordinary.
