THE
SELFRIDGES
BEAUTY
AWARDS

The Selfridges Beauty Awards are back! And what a year it’s been for beauty. On the quest to find the most epic products of 2019, we gathered buyers, experts and passionate beauty fans from across Selfridges to vote for their standout products of the year. Cue drumroll, we hereby announce the winners…

The ride-or-die lipstick
And the winner is: Christian Louboutin Velvet Matte Lip Colour

Arguably the most opulent lipstick of all time, Louboutin’s Velvet Matte Lip Colour combines nourishing oils with punchy pigments for long-lasting comfort. Our favourite shade? Rouge Louboutin, which Selfridges’ experts agree is the ultimate red.

Best mascara
And the winner is: NARS Climax Mascara

Say hello to your secret weapon to long and luscious lashes. Combining a jet-black thickening formula with a fat bristled wand – our beauty buyer put it best: “I’ve tried them all. This mascara isn’t messing about.” Expect full-on lashes after just a few swipes.

Ultimate skin SOS
And the winner is: Dr Jart+ Ceramidin Cream

Korean brand Dr Jart+ is at the top of its game when it comes to the latest innovations in skincare. Its patented Ceramidin Cream has reached Hall of Fame status – the uber-hydrating formula soothes and strengthen the driest of skin.

Best niche fragrance
And the winner is: Ex Nihilo

This Parisian perfume house has earnt cult status thanks to its range of elegant, refined fragrances. Venenum Kiss is our very own fragrance buyer’s signature scent – the sensual, oriental blend flies off the shelves (which is why she keeps a secret back-up on her desk).

OUR
TOP
PRODUCTS
OF
2019

Ace of base
And the winner is: Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation

If you’re in the market for a new foundation, it’s likely you’ll find a winner amongst the popular Giorgio Armani foundation family. Power Fabric treads that fine line between having a long-lasting, medium-to-full-coverage formula that somehow feels super light and blends seamlessly into the skin. It’s make-up wizardry.

Launch of the year
And the winner is: Pat McGrath

As we ran through the nominations, there was a unanimous outcry in the room when this award came up – it simply had to be Pat McGrath. The legendary make-up artist made her UK homecoming exclusively at Selfridges earlier in the year. From luscious lipsticks to Instagram-worthy eyeshadow palettes that leave you (quite literally) hypnotised – has there ever been a more MAJOR make-up launch? We think not.

The does-it-all palette
And the winner is: Natasha Denona Star Eyeshadow Palette

If you haven’t already tried one of Natasha Denona’s palettes, you’re in for a treat. Renowned for their buttery-soft texture and easy-to-blend pigments, it’s no wonder they crop up in make-up artists’ kits time and time again. The Star palette regularly tops our bestseller list thanks to its range of neutral mattes and showstopping metallic shimmers.

Best in brows
And the winner is: Anastasia Beverly Hills

Coined the Queen of Brows, LA-based Anastasia Soare imparted her years of expertise into her eponymous brand. From the bestselling Brow Wiz – available in a fully inclusive shade range – through to the Dipbrow Gel that works miracles on bulking sparse brows, there was a resounding “YES” among our beauty panel when Anastasia’s nomination came up.

FOR
ALL
YOUR
BEAUTY
NEEDS

People’s choice award: Best launch of the year
And the winner is: Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk

For this award, we gave the power to the people! After voting on Instagram for your ultimate beauty launch of 2019, we’re pleased to announce the winner is Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk collection. On the back of the success of the sell-out Pillow Talk lipstick, a blusher and eye quad in the same pinky-beige tones joined the iconic franchise earlier this year. They were an instant hit and completed the look for die-hard Pillow Talk fans.

Best in travel
And the winner is: Sol de Janeiro

Combining joyous orange packaging with coconut-infused formulas, this travel-friendly range simply screams summer. From mini versions of their cult Brazilian Bum Bum Cream to SPF 50 sticks and oils, you’ll be fit for the beaches of Rio in no time.

Most Instagrammed product
And the winner is: Farsali

You may have seen these humble pipettes pop up on your Instagram feed this past year after they garnered an army of devoted beauty fans. Why, you ask? Well, the hydration-primer hybrid gives skin a glowing, juicy base for foundation to follow. In essence: it’s ultimate #skingoals.

Best blockbuster scent
And the winner is: Creed Aventus Cologne

Aventus Cologne caused quite the commotion when it launched earlier this year – which is why it had to be our blockbuster scent. The latest addition to the popular Aventus family, the Cologne offers a fresh twist to the original. It blends top notes of ginger and pink peppercorn with leathery birch, musk and tonka.

AND
THE
WINNER
IS…

Hair hero
And the winner is: Living Proof Body Builder

Throw all your pre-conceived hairspray fears out the window. This customisable hairspray has a diehard fan-base among our Selfridges beauty awards panel for its ability to add body and hold without making your hair crunchy or stick together. The formula’s flexible polymers keep the hair bouncy, shiny and static-free. Win-win.

Champions of sustainability
And the winner is: Face Halo

This award is one that is close to our hearts. Earlier in the year, we launched our Project Ocean Beauty Booth – a space filled with plastic-conscious solutions for your everyday beauty routine – and our biggest surprise hit was Face Halo. These reusable discs make wasteful face wipes a thing of the past and remove all your make-up without a single drop of product.

Lifetime achievement award
And the winner is: Benefit Hoola Bronzing Powder

Odds are, Benefit’s iconic bronzer has been in your make-up bag at one point or another in your lifetime – certainly if our Selfridges beauty panel is anything to go by. The iconic product was one of the first of its kind to lean towards a more cool-toned brown and it avoided shimmer with a completely matte finish. To quote our own beauty expert: “Hey, if it ain’t broke…”

Multitasking marvel
And the winner is: Nudestix

Nudestix’s range of cream-based, long-wear products can be used everywhere and anywhere. In fact, we encourage it. Embrace the matchy-matchy trend by blending one shade over your eye lids, cheeks and lips for a fabulous failsafe look.

CUE
DRUMROLL...

Best beauty gadget
And the winner is: GHD Glide Hot Brush

Sure, there are a few fancy hair tools out there – but we’re backing the brilliant Glide Hot Brush from GHD. So much so, a chorus of ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ were produced when one Selfridges beauty expert shared their before and after photos with the group. Perfect for second-day hair, the brush uses ceramic heat technology to glide through hair and eliminate frizz in just a few strokes.

Best of men’s grooming
And the winner is: Acqua di Parma

When it comes to men’s grooming, Acqua di Parma may be the most stylish of them all. The Italian fragrance brand’s line of nourishing skincare and beard-friendly products received a thumbs-up from the male beauty experts (and smells In-Credible). To take things next level, enjoy a haircut or hot shave in The Barbiere space at Selfridges London.
