The power of a truly great accessory can never be underestimated – hence why we're doubling (yes, doubling!) the size of our existing department at Selfridges Oxford Street. The new Accessories Hall – created in collaboration with David Chipperfield Architects – is home to the world's most desirable designer bags, jewellery, tech trinkets and personalised pieces. Discover our pick of this season's hero bags, plus take a look at the extraordinary new space.

CHLOÉ

Purveyor of many an 'it' bag over the last half century (it’s got to be the Parisian thing, right?), Chloé is the original go-to for free-spirited femininity. Leader of the Chloé pack is the Drew, whose beauty lies in her versatility. Her butter-soft leather, gently curved shape and elegant chain strap mean she works a treat with bohemian and polished looks alike. The ultimate 24/7 companion.

GUCCI

A Gucci bag was the accessory of choice for show-goers during fashion month this September, resulting in daily thumb-stopping moments on Instagram. The question is: do we go for the retro glamour of the Dionysus, or the double-G appeal of the Soho cross-body? One thing's for sure: you can't go wrong with Gucci right now. These are the heirloom pieces of the future.

STELLA MCCARTNEY

Renowned globally for her iconic chain-trimmed Falabella bag, Stella McCartney has given the signature slouchy style a covetable update with this structured, hard-case version – brand new for this season. The Falabella Box collection includes a tote and shoulder bag in a range of luxurious materials and finishes, including this sleek satchel. Think same cult status as the original, but easier to find your keys.

MULBERRY

Since joining Mulberry in 2015, creative director Johnny Coca (ex Louis Vuitton and Céline) has taken this best-of-British heritage label in a new – more minimalist – direction. The Chester bag – first seen on the AW16 catwalk – is sitting pretty at the top of our wish list, thanks to its clean lines, modern flat press studs and smart, structured appeal.

GIVENCHY

"I wanted to launch a more classic bag, more for a mature woman: with less metal, more elegance, more chic, more luxurious-looking," explained Ricardo Tisci about the Horizon - the new AW16 addition to the Givenchy ranks. With its satisfying right angles and surprisingly lightweight construction, we think this might just be our favourite Givenchy bag to date. A true modern masterpiece.

LOEWE

With designer du jour Jonathan Anderson at the helm, Spanish label Loewe – founded in 1846 by a cooperative of leather artisans – is enjoying renewed cult status. The hotly anticipated Joyce bag, which debuted on the AW16 catwalk, is clearly destined for the It-bag hall of fame (alongside Loewe's now-iconic Puzzle and Flamenco bags). With its gold-tone logo disc, it is the ultimate badge of honour for Loewe fans (that's us, by the way).
