How does LEGO select what it bases its new models on? 

When choosing which iconic vehicles to add to the LEGO Speed Champions collection, we always focus on including different partners and types of vehicles that give kids and car enthusiasts the chance to explore some of the world’s most exciting automobiles and offer them new and unique building experiences each time.

Why were the Ford Bronco R and the GT Heritage Edition chosen as the inspiration for these LEGO models?

The Bronco R, being larger than a supercar, requires an original nine LEGO studs-wide build. Our design team took on a real challenge with this model to find new ways to achieve the desired aesthetics, and truly offer something new. We saw these models as the perfect opportunity to demonstrate how much more accurate, authentic and detailed our vehicles have become by revisiting the beautiful Ford GT (previously attempted with the discontinued six studs-wide toy cars). Seen side by side, the visual difference is massive. Also, to add even further differentiation, we included the iconic Gulf livery.

Who do you think will love these two models?

As with every vehicle we add to our Speed Champions collection, we hope that these vehicles will appeal to automobile fans of all ages, educate younger builders and impress experienced LEGO fans.

What is special about them?

Every vehicle we add to the Speed Champions range is special in its own way. Each playset includes unique details and building techniques that challenge the design team in different ways. But, most importantly, they allow kids and car enthusiasts to build and display their favourite replicas of the world’s best-known and fastest automobiles. 

If you were to feature these LEGO models as real cars, how would you describe them?

The Bronco R is perfect for thrilling race action and will bring out the inner child in anybody. The Ford GT Heritage Edition is like a moving sculpture – being both beautiful to look at but even more fun and fast to drive.
