We are delighted that our stores in London, Birmingham, Manchester Exchange Square and Manchester Trafford are now open and look forward to welcoming you back in store. At this time, we thought we would take a moment to celebrate the brilliant work done by those who have kept us all going during this difficult period. To our friends, families, colleagues, neighbours, brilliant NHS and key workers, hard-working delivery drivers, tireless check-out staff and kind strangers: we want to say thank you.

To make sure our appreciation is felt loud and clear, our team members have created messages of love and thanks, which you will now find displayed in the windows of Selfridges London. Read on to discover their thank you messages, both big and small, heartfelt and unexpected, and the personal stories behind them.

Isolation has been really tough. My mum’s cancer has returned, and every day is a blessing. Mum moved in with my sister and I, and let’s just say, it was time for us girls to try and have some fun. Mum loves dressing up, so when I said: “Mum put your make-up on but take your clothes off,” she asked no questions! It took a while to explain the ‘Pillow Challenge’, however the poses came so easily. The love we have for her is indescribable. She couldn’t be more or do more for us, and others.

I decided to thank our local postman during this time as I recognised how hard he’s been working to get our parcels and mail delivered to us, come rain or shine. He will always say hello to me when I pass him on his rounds – he constantly spreads kindness and happiness!

I wanted to thank my friends, as during lockdown we’ve all helped keep each other’s spirits high while connecting digitally. It’s been a great opportunity for mutual friends in Vancouver, Toronto, San Francisco, New York and London to meet for the first time over Zoom and form new connections, which has been a really special outcome of this experience.

My thank you is for my amazing girlfriend who has put up with my rollercoaster of emotions during lockdown! She has been my rock, and I can truly never thank her enough for the mental health support she has given me during this time.

Senior Art Director

I want to say a big thank you to my dad who has been working long hours for the NHS for years and even more so during this pandemic. He kept me posted on the positive energy he witnessed first-hand at the hospital. From the cleaners and folks on the switchboard, right through to the doctors and nurses – they all went above and beyond, which was super inspiring to hear. We owe them more than just a thank you. I also want to send a special thank you to two of my lovely nieces, who baked me a white chocolate chip brownie and sent it to me via the post. Can’t wait to see you soon!

A big yellow thank you to #TeamBirmingham (my amazing work family!) for making the world a brighter, better place, and always being there to support our communities and each other.

My dog’s name is Smoke; he’s four. I live by the sea, on the south east coast, so that’s where we walk mostly, along big stretches of beach. When things changed, it was like having a special reason to be outside. Now, more than ever, I am absolutely sure he is a really good boy.

I would like to thank my best friend Kostis for always being available to me at this difficult time. Even though we live in different countries, we spend a lot of time chatting. Thank you for taking my mind off things, Kostis!

Senior Loss Prevention Manager

Lockdown must be particularly hard for children, so I wanted to say thank you to my two boys, Rocco and Zane, for continuing to brighten my day during these difficult times. The biggest challenge for them has been not being able to see their friends, while also keeping them motivated to learn. During this time, we’ve been finding new walks to explore together, and playing lots of board games.

Here are my thanks: T for transport, H for my health, A for art, N for nature, K for the key to my heart – which leads to S for sisterhood; because in my department, we try to be sisters for each other.

It’s hard to thank everyone – the key workers, my family and the nation who have been staying safe, keeping their distance and waiting for normality to return, so to anyone who reads this: THANK YOU! We have all played a part, and we will come out of this stronger and closer.

I’d like to say thank you to my older brother Vasco. He’s back home in Portugal, and I’m unsure when I will see him next, yet during this lockdown he’s finished his first work of art and sent me a painting created by him. Thank you, Vasco!

Internal communications manager, HR

As well as an intense gratitude to all our amazing key workers who have kept us going throughout the lockdown, my thank you goes to my amazing Selfridges family! Through all the strangeness of this time, I’ve felt supported, reassured, and as though I am part of something truly extraordinary. From constant communications to wellbeing support and our overwhelming sense of community, spirits have never wavered despite the anxiety of living through a pandemic! We work in such a special place and for that I want to say thank you.

To our yellow bubble, I want to thank you – for holding tight with your employees like a family, and never letting the hope fade away in such trying times.

Whilst working from home I’ve been sitting at a desk that faces out to our front gate, so I see the postman every day. He’s a regular friendly face during my working week so it felt right to use this poster as a way to say thank you.

I always see the food store helpers every day when I go and shop for my family and I’m amazed at how willing they are to still come out and provide others with essential food items, risking their lives. They deserve recognition for a service many people overlook.

Production Assistant, Creative Presentation

Having used the internet so much during this pandemic, I realised how much we have to thank tech and communication workers keeping us all connected. I took my poster inspiration from Y2K-era computer graphics. I wanted to pull through some old computing references to make tech workers happy, so I took a 1986 Macintosh and incorporated Y2K-inspired backgrounds. I've been using Zoom to stay connected with the teams at Selfridges, as well as friends all over the world. I even had a surprise birthday Zoom party, which really made me smile.

Nick Caccavone – Doorman

Our doorman at Selfridges London is ready to welcome you back into store very soon...
Over the years I’ve greeted many faces
From all walks of life and different races
Rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief
The high and mighty and those beneath

There've been living legends from back in the day
Beautiful people who make your heart sway
When I see a limo I wonder who'll jump out
An Oscar winner or model with pout

Sporting heroes and A-list celebs
Fashionistas and those that turn heads
No two days are ever the same
I just saw ‘thingy’, but I can't remember his name
My yellow umbrella is never far away
Keeping it handy for a rainy day

I love chit-chatting and helping our guests
telling them stories and saying we're the best
If you're ever passing come and say hi
My name is Nick, the doorman guy!
