THE BEST NEW MAKE-UP LAUNCHES YOU NEED TO KNOW

Our Beauty Editor shares her standouts from the new (and exclusive) make-up launches.

Spring is here, and with it brings a sense of hope, new beginnings and a frisson of excitement for us beauty fans. Yes, it’s around this time of year the spring/summer make-up collections arrive, bringing some much-needed perky colour back into our lives (and faces). Perfect timing, right?

After closer inspection, I’m happy to reveal there’s a bit of a theme amongst the new recruits – think: healthy glowing skin, easy-to-use, innovative formulas and a clever use of colour. Time to prepare your make-up bag for some new MVPs…

HERMÈS BEAUTY – Rose Hermès Silky Blush, Blush Brush, Rosy Lip Enhancers

Following the success of their breakthrough into beauty with Rouge Hermès lipsticks, Hermès is back – and this time it’s venturing into skin, with eight Rose Hermès Silky Blushes, two brushes and three Rosy Lip Enhancers. Expect a soft, radiant, rosy tint to the skin with light formulas that feel like a little luxury every morning. Each product’s weighted packaging comes in the Hermès signature orange box – I defy anyone to hold back a smile on opening. The eight blushes come in a range of shades – from subtle neutrals and corals to hot pinks – but the star of the show for me is Rose Blush; a peachy pink that melts into the skin and is the perfect accompaniment for any lipstick or eye colour combos you throw at it.

BYREDO – Dysco Eyeshadow 5 Colours, Tears In Rain Waterproof Mascara, Practical Brown Eyeliner

If you haven’t yet had a chance to try Byredo make-up, I implore you to start now. Yes, their fragrances are gorgeous, but their innovative make-up products are some of my absolute favourites from last year (no surprise when creative powerhouses Ben Gorham and make-up-artist extraordinaire Isamaya Ffrench are at the helm). Adding to their roster of eye products, they’ve launched a waterproof iteration of the mascara – a smart move with warmer weather (fingers crossed!) and a possible bout of hayfever on the horizon – plus a softer luminous brown version of the liquid eyeliner and a new eyeshadow palette called Dysco, comprising five warm-toned shades in pink, copper, bronze and burgundy.

GUCCI BEAUTY – Rouge De Beauté Brillant Glow and Care Lip Colour

Let’s face it, a number of us have cast aside our lipsticks this past year in favour of caring lip balms and sheer tints. If you’re looking to reintroduce lip colour, but are feeling a touch wary (hey, we’re all a bit dusty in the make-up department right now) these new Glow & Care Lip Colours give you the best of both worlds. The moisturising formula delivers long-lasting luminous colour but with the soothing properties of a balm, thanks to a combination of nourishing oils. The creamy texture comes in a range of 15 shades – from vibrant reds, pinks and corals to plum and neutrals – so you’re sure to find a colour that matches your mood.

DIOR – Summer Dune 2021 Collection

Inspired by the beating sun, golden sand and blue sky of the desert dunes, Dior’s latest collection is an homage to summer – and a teaser for (hopefully) warmer times to come. Mimicking sand dunes, the two eyeshadow palettes come in gold, orange and bronze tones in a ‘sandwave’ design that looks like glistening sand. There are also new shades of their bestselling Rouge Dior Forever Lips (a great long-wear matte lip that stays put under face coverings), two double-ended long-wear eyeliners, plus their Diorshow Overcurl mascara in a waterproof formula. But my personal standout has to be the Forever Natural Bronze powder. This is the perfect summer bronzer – the light, shimmer-free formula gives a natural sun-kissed warmth to skin so you can dust it across the cheeks and forehead liberally (and needn’t worry about resembling a disco ball in daylight).

TOM FORD – Soleil Summer 2021

If there was ever a time to embrace a gold Noughties JLO-esque lip gloss or try out a brave new eye trend, now is it, right? If this rings true, Tom Ford’s Soleil Summer ’21 collection centred around golden opulence is for you. First up, the Soleil Summer Sunlust Lip, which may look unassuming but has a clever formula that works like a nifty magic trick – the pearlescent high-shine gloss applies golden and then shade-shifts into a shimmering peach colour before your very eyes. Ramp up your looks over the coming months with Mr Ford’s two-tiered eye colour, which comes in a pigmented black cream base and high-shine gold powder to dab on top. Very Studio 54 vibes! Now, where did I put that sequin jumpsuit…
